Ordination & Licensing at Theos Seminary

You don’t become a minister because someone hands you a certificate. You become a minister because God calls you. Which is why licensing and ordination don’t create a calling… they recognize one.

At Theos Seminary, we take that seriously. We’re not handing out credentials like Halloween candy, and we’re not pretending to be your elder board.

We don’t know your prayer life, your marriage, or whether you showed up to staff meeting on time. That’s for your local church community and leadership to do—true ordination requires actually knowing and vouching for someone, and frankly, we aren't set up to play spiritual police.

So what are we doing?
We’re creating a simple, trustworthy network for ministers who love Jesus, love the Church, and want to stand together doctrinally.
Think less “denominational bureaucracy” and more “theology nerds with clergy cards.”

What This Is

A network of like-minded ministers
A shared statement of faith
Legal ministerial credentials
Connection without micromanagement

What This Is Not

Your new church
Your spiritual police department
A replacement for local accountability
A weekly reporting structure

How It Works (And How It Doesn't)

We like to keep things simple, transparent, and absurdly efficient:

No Seminary Degree Required

You don’t need a Master’s degree from us (or anywhere else) to be licensed through our network.

No Interviews or Letters of Rec

We aren't going to grill you on a Zoom call or make your best friend write an essay about you.

Doctrinal Alignment is Key

If you agree with our statement of faith, you’re in.

The Fine Print

While we don't do ongoing personal oversight, we will revoke licensing for unrepentant public sin or overt heresy. Keep it orthodox, keep it holy.

The Legal Perks

You get an official card identifying you as a clergy member, legally qualifying you to perform weddings across the USA.

Get Licensed in 3 Easy Steps

Here’s the path from "I'm called" to officially recognized:

Step 2

Submit the Ordination Application

Complete the main application confirming your agreement with our core doctrinal tenets and vision.

Step 3

Get Carded & Go Serve

Once approved, pay your dues, grab your official clergy card, and hit the ground running with full legal credentials to conduct ceremonies.

FAQ

Send any questions to support@theosseminary.com

Will I be able to legally conduct weddings and funerals?
Yes. Once approved and credentialed through our network, you will receive an official clergy card. This legally qualifies you as a recognized minister to perform weddings across the United States (subject to local county registration requirements, which vary by state) as well as officiate funerals, hospital visitations, and other sacerdotal duties.
Can my credentials be revoked?
Yes. Credentials may be revoked for unrepentant public sin, serious moral failure, or overt theological heresy. We’re not looking for perfection, but we do care about holiness and historic Christian orthodoxy.
Do I need to be a student or graduate of Theos Seminary to apply?
Not at all. You don’t need to be enrolled in Theos Seminary, nor do you need a Master of Divinity (or any degree) to apply for licensing and ordination through our network. We care about your doctrinal alignment and your calling—not your academic transcripts.
Does this mean Theos Seminary is my new church oversight or accountability board?
No, and we can’t stress this enough. We are a central hub and church network, not your local church session, elder board, or spiritual police force. True accountability requires local relationship—people who actually know you, see your life, and can speak into it directly. We handle the network alignment and legal scaffolding; your local church community provides the relational covering.
What if I disagree with a secondary or minor theological opinion taught at Theos?
That’s totally fine. We love healthy theological discussion and don't expect absolute uniformity on every tertiary issue (like exact end-times timelines or preferred Bible translations). "Doctrinal alignment" means you stand in firm agreement with our core statement of faith—historic, orthodox Christian orthodoxy.
Why is there an annual network fee?
To keep the lights on and your legal status active. The $297 annual fee covers the administrative upkeep of maintaining an active clergy directory, verification services when local government clerks call us to verify your minister status, and continuous support for the network infrastructure.
